syntax — Privacy Policy

The short version

syntax's core accessibility features — read-aloud, readable/dyslexia mode, and bigger text — run entirely on your own device. Your clipboard history is also stored only on your device. We do not sell your data and we do not use advertising trackers. We do record basic product-usage counts on the website (which surface you used, which action, and when) so we can keep the product working — never your selected text, clipboard contents, or keystrokes. Network requests that carry your content happen only when you take an explicit action (signing in, generating an image, or opening an AI tool while signed in).

What runs on your device (no data leaves your computer)

• Read-aloud uses your browser's built-in speech engine. The text you select is spoken locally; it is not sent to us.
• Readable / dyslexia mode and bigger text change how the page is displayed in your browser only.
• Clipboard history — when you copy or cut text on a page, the extension saves it to a local, on-device list (capped at 50 items) so you can find and reuse it later. This list is never synced to any server, never uploaded, and never inspected by us. Anything that looks like a password, API key, or secret token (long unbroken strings, key-shaped patterns) is filtered out and never stored at all — not masked, just never saved. You can delete any entry or clear the whole list at any time from the popup.
• Your settings (reading speed, readable mode on/off, clipboard list) are saved in your browser's local storage on your device.

Optional features that use the internet

These features only run when you explicitly trigger them — never automatically and never in the background:

• Signing in. If you sign in with your email, a one-time code is sent to verify it's you (via Supabase, our authentication provider). Signing in raises your generation limits; you can still generate images on the anonymous house rails without signing in.
• Image generation (@image"..."). The description you type is sent to syntax's servers to generate an image. The real credit cost is always shown before anything is generated, and nothing generates without your explicit confirmation. The resulting image link is inserted into your text and, where your browser allows it, the image itself is copied to your clipboard.
• AI rewrite tools such as "Make clearer," when available and when you're signed in — the specific text you choose is sent to syntax's servers to generate a suggestion, then returned to you. If you never sign in or use these features, no text is ever sent for this purpose.

None of this text or these images are sold or used for advertising.

Product usage counting (website)

On yoursyntax.app we load a small first-party script that records basic product-usage events (surface, action, timestamp, and a random device identifier in your browser storage). Events are sent to our servers and may be associated with your account if you are signed in. They do not include document text, prompts, or clipboard contents. Sync is on by default; if your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we treat counting as off unless you later choose otherwise. We do not use third-party advertising analytics (no gtag / pixels).

When you use AI features, the specific content you submit for that request is processed by our infrastructure and AI providers needed to fulfill it (including OpenRouter / model hosts for rewrite, and fal.ai for image generation where applicable). Card payments, when used, go through Stripe — we never see your full card number.

Permissions, and why we ask

• Access to the pages you're on — so the tool can read or restyle the text you're working with, detect the @image"..." grammar, and watch for copy/cut events, in any site's text field. It only acts on the page you're using.
• Storage — to remember your accessibility settings, your on-device clipboard history, and your sign-in session.
• Clipboard write — used only to copy a generated image back to your clipboard after you confirm a generation, and to let you copy a saved clipboard entry back out.

What we do NOT do

No selling of data. No advertising trackers. No collecting your browsing history. No reading your pages in the background. No sending accessibility/clipboard text to our servers.

Service providers (subprocessors)

We share data only with providers needed to run the services:

• Stripe — payment processing.
• Supabase — authentication and data storage.
• Google Cloud / Firebase — hosting and backend.
• OpenRouter / model hosts — AI features you request.
• fal.ai — image generation you request.
• Resend — transactional email when applicable.

Access, export, and delete

When signed in, use Account → Your data to export a JSON package or request account erase. You can also email privacy@manymoats.com or support@manymoats.com.

Children

The on-device accessibility features do not require an account or any personal information. Account-based features are not directed to children under 13.
